The Holistic Nutrition Certificate program will educate students on the basics of human anatomy and introduce basic biochemistry and cellular physiology. On this foundation students will learn the basics of digestion, nutrition and diet, the psychology of food, food allergies, diet evaluation and food coaching, weight management, and nutritional supplementation.
This program does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. As such, PTIRU did not review this program

BMS197 – Anatomy and Physiology
This foundational course provides a detailed introduction of the levels of structural organization and characteristics of the living human organism. Students will be introduced to anatomical terminology, basic biochemistry, cellular anatomy and physiology. This course will conclude with a study of the integumentary system and bone tissue.
HN100 – Fundamentals of Holistic Nutrition
This comprehensive course provides an overview of holistic nutrition practices. Drawing on both Eastern and Western paradigms of food therapy as well as food monographs, the course introduces students to the use of food as medicine and examines constitutional tendencies. Emphasis is on using real, whole foods to maintain balance and to prevent and treat disease. Students will explore nutrition in the context of individual body ecology, eating patterns, lifestyle factors, and local and global practices and trends.
HN101 – The Science of Food and Digestion
In this course, students will learn about the constituents of the whole food at macromolecular and micro molecular levels. To understand the mechanism of digestive system and its associated disorders. To begin to explore where nutrients come from, as well as their importance for particular tasks in the body and problems faced by deficiencies.
HN102 – Food As Medicine
This course focuses on the core of holistic nutrition: learning to choose foods that promote an individual healthy lifestyle. It covers both modern and traditional nutrition modalities, such as Paleo-primal diets, Low-carb, and High-protein diets for various conditions. Further, it covers the application of ancient medicinal methods such as Ayurvedic and Chinese Traditions, as well as current methods that relate to holistic individuality. Students will learn how to build their own dietary regimes and relate to food in way of supporting the long-term Life of body-mind-soul.
HN103 – Psychology of Nutrition I (Eating Addiction: A Holistic Approach to Recovery)
This course explores various unhealthy eating habits, patterns and addictions. Students will gain a deeper understanding of eating addictions and disorders from a holistic perspective. They will also learn practical strategies for helping clients move toward a healthier relationship with food and their bodies.
HN104 – Lifecycles I: (Weight Management: From Diet to Lifestyle)
This course explores weight management from a lifestyle and lifecycle perspective—moving beyond diet and towards sustained, healthy body weight. It covers the conditions of being underweight and overweight, as well as the science of weight gain and loss from traditional and biomedical perspectives. Students will explore the flaws of calorie counting, and focus on the new science behind weight loss, understanding metabolism, lifestyle factors and exercise levels. Emphasis will include using individualized eating and lifestyle plans to maintain an optimal body weight with minimal struggle.
HN105 – Food Allergies & Sensitivities I
This course explores common food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities, including their consequences for the body and mind. It covers methods for identifying, managing, and treating allergic and sensitivity reactions.
HN106 – Diet Evaluation and Food Coaching
This course looks at the fundamentals of diet evaluation and food coaching. It covers strategies for finding clients; strategies for coaching clients about their main health issues and goals; and principles of diet evaluation. Students will learn and practice skills needed to help others implement healthy eating plans. They will also develop client forms, questionnaires, and other supporting materials.
HN107 – Nutritional Supplements
This course will explore the value of nutritional supplements with emphasis on key terms, labeling and manufacturing, vitamin & mineral combinations, accessory nutrients, as well as the application of supplements in practice.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to demonstrate:
- Identify the major systems of human anatomy.
- Demonstrate an understanding of digestion.

Admission Requirements:
- Students are required to be 19 years of age prior to the start of the program or possess a high school diploma (or equivalent), and provide evidence of one of the following English proficiency requirements:
- Evidence that 3 years of full-time secondary education (Grades 8- 12), or 2 years if the Grades are 10, 11, or 12, have been successfully completed in the program’s language of instruction in a country where the language of instruction is one of the principal languages, or
- Completion of 2 years of full-time post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction, or
- Provide verified results for one of the English language proficiency tests listed below. Test results must be dated no more than two years before the start date of the program:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic – Minimum overall score of 5.5
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) IBT – Minimum overall score of 46
- Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) – Minimum overall score of 40
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) Listening 6, Speaking 6, Reading 5, and Writing 5.
- Duolingo English Test (DET) – Minimum overall score of 95
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic – Minimum overall score of 43
- Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First exam (FCE) – Minimum overall score of 160 or “C”
- Cambridge Linguaskill – Minimum overall B2 level
