What Massage Therapy Awareness Week Means
Every year, massage therapists across Canada celebrate Massage Therapy Awareness Week to highlight the benefits of massage and the care RMTs provide. This year’s theme, “Every Body Belongs in Safe Care,” focuses on inclusion, accessibility, and safety in massage therapy.
At Kootenay Columbia College (KCC) in Nelson, BC, we share the same focus. Our RMT students learn how to provide safe, respectful, and informed care to every person they treat.
From October 19–25, 2025, we’re joining the national celebration by opening our student clinics to the community and offering a special “Refer a Friend, and Save on Your Next Visit” promotion.
Training Future RMTs at Kootenay Columbia College
Our Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) Program prepares students for professional practice in British Columbia.
Students learn about anatomy, physiology, pathology, and massage techniques through classroom lessons and supervised clinical practice. They gain confidence by treating real clients in our on-campus student clinics.
Nelson provides a peaceful setting for learning massage therapy. The smaller class sizes, supportive instructors, and hands-on experience help students develop strong practical and communication skills.
Graduates are ready to work in clinics, hospitals, or rehabilitation centers, or to build their own practices.
A Focus on Safe and Inclusive Care
The theme for Massage Therapy Awareness Week 2025, “Every Body Belongs in Safe Care,” reflects values that are part of our daily work at KCC.
Our students learn to:
- Respect every client’s comfort and boundaries
- Provide care that meets each person’s physical and emotional needs
- Create spaces that welcome people of all backgrounds and abilities
- Use clear, consent-based communication
Massage therapy is about trust, respect, and understanding. These lessons help our students provide meaningful care throughout their careers.
Celebrate with Savings: Refer a Friend
To mark this special week, we invite the Nelson community to celebrate with us. When you refer a friend to our Student Clinics, both of you will save on your next visit.
This offer is a way to say thank you for supporting our students and helping spread awareness about massage therapy.

Healthcare careers, particularly those focused on pain management and wellness, tend to remain stable even during economic uncertainty. People will always need healthcare, and as our population ages and workplace stress increases, the demand for skilled massage therapists continues to grow.
Moreover, RMT is a profession that offers flexibility. Whether you want to work part-time while raising a family, build a full-time practice, or specialize in a particular area of interest, massage therapy can adapt to your life goals.
